International Women's Day Events in Your Suburb

Held annually on March 8, International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global commemoration celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It’s also a call to action for all of us to consider how to accelerate progress towards gender equality.

With a history going back over 100 years in Australia, IWD events are a staple in our communities, workplaces and schools. From breakfasts to concerts, we’ve compiled some IWD events around Melbourne so you can get involved!

Carnegie, Bentleigh and Elsternwick
Back by popular demand for International Women’s Day, the Australian Barbra Streisand Show hits the Auditorium at Glen Eira Town Hall on Saturday March 8 at 7pm. It’s a great opportunity for everyone in Carnegie, Bentleigh and Elsternwick to get together and celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion. Enjoy an evening of music from the wonderful Rachael Grace with songs from one of the most inspiring women of the music and movie world, Barbra Streisand.

Blackburn
Residents of Blackburn and the City of Whitehorse get together every year at Box Hill Town Hall for the International Women’s Day Breakfast on the 13th of March. Organised by the Rotary Clubs of Whitehorse, the event includes a delicious breakfast with an inspirational range of guest speakers. Registrations are at 6:45am for a 7:15am start.

Camberwell
Celebrate International Women's Day in Boroondara at the Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre on Friday 7 March for a special breakfast celebrating the strength and achievements of women around the world. Running from 8am to 9:30am, a special guest speaker from Share the Dignity will inspire with insights on addressing period poverty and supporting women’s dignity.

Mornington Peninsula
Every year on the first weekend of March, The Pig & Whistle Tavern puts together an International Women’s Day Festival at their venue. Featuring live music, motivational speakers, market stalls, entertainers and performers, it’s a whole day of activities for all ages while celebrating women's achievements and pushing for equality

Mount Waverley and Oakleigh
Hosted at The Village Green Hotel, the International Women’s Day Charity Dinner is a great option for people in Mount Waverley and Oakleigh looking to get involved with a good feed and an inspiring talk. Taking place from 6:30pm on Monday 3 March, the dinner features guest speaker Vivienne Nguyen AM, Chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission.

Ascot Vale, Essendon and Keilor
The Moonee Valley City Council offers a variety of initiatives, activities and events around Essendon, Ascot Vale and Keilor to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. This includes IWD Morning Teas at Keilor East Leisure Centre from 10.30am and Ascot Vale Leisure Centre at 11.15am on Saturday March 8. Women also get free pool entry on the day so they can relax, connect and unwind t with friends and family at Queens Park Pool, Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, and Keilor East Leisure Centre.

Carlton and the Inner North
The City of Yarra also offers a range of activities, initiatives and events for women in Carlton and the inner north every year around International Women’s Day. While these are yet to be announced for 2025, in the past, it has included business networking events for women, free group exercise classes at Yarra Leisure and art exhibitions at Carlton Library and Fitzroy Library.

Coburg and Pascoe Vale
Every year for International Women’s Day, Merri-bek City Council promotes a range of events that celebrate the incredible contributions and achievements of women for locals in Coburg and Pascoe Vale to explore. This includes a sports open day at Charles Mutton Reserve with a free BBQ, art exhibitions and guest speakers at Brunswick Library and Sussex Neighbourhood House in Pascoe Vale.

Lilydale and Yarra Valley
Join fellow community members from Lilydale and the Yarra Valley area at the Japara Neighbourhood House for a special International Women’s Day celebration. Running from 10am, the event includes a morning tea and workshop focused on helping working women discover self-compassion, regain balance and prevent exhaustion and burnout.

Manningham
In Manningham, locals can get involved in the annual International Women’s Day breakfast at Manningham Function Centre. Get together with the community for a delightful morning meal while showing your support for gender equality on Thursday, 6 March 2025 from 7:30am to 9:30am.

South Yarra, Heidelberg, Croydon and Macedon Ranges
Local International Women’s Day events are yet to be announced for these suburbs in 2025, but we’ll keep an eye out and update this page! Another option is to trek into the city for one of the many events commemorating the occasion there, including:

  • UN Women Australia’s IWD Lunch 2025 featuring Celeste Barber on Friday 7 March at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
  • The WORK180 International Women’s Day Summit 2025 at South Wharf on Friday 7 March, with a special guest keynote by Jessica Gallagher.
  • MBV International Women’s Day Breakfast on Friday 7 March at Centrepiece at Melbourne Park.
  • AmCham's International Women's Day 2025 on Thursday 6 March at the RACV City Club featuring a panel discussion with a range of trailblazing leaders.

From dinners to panel discussions, there’s a range of ways to engage with International Women’s Day this year and become part of the movement to #MarchForward.
